The Building With Music project was born from a co-design process that strongly involved the Mozambican public institutions in the cultural sector, with the aim of creating a project truly capable of responding to the needs of the population and, in particular, of the Mozambican cultural sector. The involvement of the State is essential to create projects that can go beyond the single organization and have a lasting impact in the long term. The project aims to improve the technical skills of the employees of the Mozambican Houses of Culture in 4 of the 10 provinces of the country, and create incubators that help artists develop ideas for sustainable cultural enterprises.

The project will touch on 3 main areas:

• Protect and safeguard Mozambican cultural heritage, exploiting the potential of culture to promote sustainable social and economic development;
• Encourage lasting, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all, enhancing youth entrepreneurship so that increasingly young Mozambicans themselves become agents of change for their country;
• Encourage and promote effective partnerships between public, public-private and civil society by strengthening the skills of officials of the Mozambican provincial directorates and technicians of the Houses of Culture so that they become centers for the promotion of innovation in the cultural sector and incubators for cultural and creative enterprises.

The idea for this project, with a total cost of €1,490,430 and a duration of 36 months, was born from the experiences that AGAPE and Milano Musica, one of the main project partners, have achieved over the years in the culture and youth entrepreneurship sector, and from the institutional trust that they have managed to achieve from the Ministry of Culture and the Mozambican Youth Secretariat.
