We intend to ensure that young people without the financial means to access a high-level education do not give up the aspiration to learn a profession and find a respectable job that also benefits their country.
The idea of creating a fund that would finance scholarships for university or vocational courses emerged as a natural evolution of the distance support programme from which AGAPE was born. Every year, more and more young people express the desire to attend university. As the country’s economy grows rapidly, so does their wish to improve their own and their family’s situation and to plan a future with greater possibilities.
STUDY
Each young person at university represents an expense of around 2,000€ per year (including tuition, school materials, transport, and a small subsidy that allows them to live). We accompany them throughout their years of study, through regular meetings at which we check their academic progress and discuss any problems.
VOLUNTEERING
These young people become volunteers for AGAPE and the organisations we work with: each one, according to their aptitudes and skills, offers some of their time to support one of the association’s projects.
RESPONSABILITY
At the end of their journey, the young people who have benefited from the scholarship will take care of another young person and help him/her to follow the same path. Each scholarship holder commits to give back, a little at a time, half of the scholarship he/she has received: this amount goes into the “Opportunity Project Fund” and will enable other young people to study.
As well as being able to access university or vocational courses, scholarship holders learn the value of gratitude and the importance of being a contribution to their community. Moreover, thanks to AGAPE’s network of partners, they have the opportunity to immediately start putting into practice what they have learnt in the books.
